A 19-year-old who was selected to represent the city two years ago has been crowned Miss Bath for a second time.

Samantha Del Greco, who was Miss Bath for 2007, was selected again last month after no one else came forward for the role.

Her mother Yvonne, who is one of the business partners at Dappa hair salon in Broad Street, has put herself forward to organise next year's Miss Bath competition.

The winner will be a contestant in the national Miss England competition.

And after Miss England organisers failed to find a host for this year's Miss Bath contest, which had for two years been run by Bath Racecourse, they asked her to choose a winner.

Yvonne said she chose Samantha because she felt her daughter had done such a good job last time.

She said: "She really enjoyed it and she had such a good time.

"Samantha was really keen to do it again and I thought she was the right person.

"She is so beautiful and has such good hair."

Samantha has now been crowned Miss Bath by the current Miss England Laura Coleman on a visit to the city.

Samantha, a keen violinist who is currently studying music at Trinity College in London, will take part in the finals of the Miss England competition next month, alongside 23 other women.

She said her experience two years ago had been "brilliant."

"Becoming Miss Bath 2007 and competing in Miss England that year was a great achievement as I'd never done anything like it before and the experience was brilliant. It gave me so much more confidence. I moved away from home when I was 15 to study performing arts which gave me the opportunity to live in different cities and areas, and meet lots of new people. It made me very independent and I learnt how to adapt to different social environments which I think is a great skill to have."

She said her ambition was to become a media lawyer.

Jo Miller, general manager of the racecourse, said she wished the Del Grecos well.

"We had really good fun running Miss Bath, but for commercial reasons in the current climate we couldn't do it again. It's a lot of work.

"But good luck to them - it's fantastic that they're carrying it on."

“I think that's a pretty narrow-minded comment seeing as it's common knowledge that papers don't always tell the complete truth. In actual fact the mother who spoke in this article never actually said a lot of what's in there, and if she did it's ben taken in the wrong context because when the paper phoned to interview her she didn't have time to talk.
What's appauling is how unsupportive our city seems to be and how it will fabricate things just to make an interesting story. The reprecussions is has on the people involved aren't deserving and in future people should be more considerate to other people lives and feelings.
Also, you say she's not worthy to represent the city but she was chosen once before and if you actually look into the Miss England winners they've all won on their second or third time there, never first. So judging by that I'd say she's a pretty good contestant to go through!
    Good luck to her.”

“This is appalling. 'Miss Bath' is a representative of the whole city not just one family. The competition usually consists of a gruelling selection process of catwalks and interviews in order to select a worthy winner. It is shameful and an embaressment for the city to have the same contestant going through to the final not based on her own merit but because she was chosen by her mother, which of course is a completely biased opinion. It makes a mockery of the title and this has stopped other young women having a chance to try to win the title.
They should be ashamed of themselves as they have clearly exploited the sponsorship of the 'Miss Bath' contest.”
