Midsomer Norton High Street brought to standstill by trapped lorry
Midsomer Norton High Street was brought to a standstill at lunchtime on Wednesday when a lorry trying to get past parked cars slipped off the pavement trapping part of its tail bar under the wheel arch of a car.
The lorry had been making a regular delivery to a pet shop in the narrow High Street and had mounted the kerb to drive away when the wheels slipped off the damp surface
The high street came to a standstill as police carefully manoeuvred the Audi 4x4 vehicle forward to release the bar and free the lorry. Traffic was diverted while the incident was cleared.

Regardless of any fault on the part of the Audi parker, is "not being able to wait" really a legitimate excuse in this case for driving a big lorry on the pavement? Was he/she on some sort of emergency mission?”

“The driver was parked in a space reserved for him by the shop. The Audi driver was clearly too big for the space she was parked in and made the road too narrow for large vehicles to pass safely. The driver would have had other drops to make and could not have waited for the Audi driver to return to her car. If it was not for the driver's quick thinking on how to remove the Audi from his tailgate, the Audi drive would have suffered much worse damage.”

“Quite right Sunny, and if you park like that in Bath the chances are you will be booked for that very parking offence of wheels outside the bay, but how often do you see CEOs in Midsomer Norton? They are rare out there as they "follow the money" and are mostly in the car parks in the centre of Bath booking perfectly legally parked cars for overstaying. With parking in MSN free there is no lucrative "turnover" for them and simply keeping the streets passable is not motivation enough. The Audi was in the wrong, hopefully sustained damage and simply bears out jeremy Clarkson's opinion of Audi drivers!! ;)”

“If you look at all of the photos you can see that the parked Audi that the lorry is touching is too wide for the space it's parked in. It's almost touching the kerb on the left and is still a couple of inches over the parking bay's white line on the right. If anyone deserves a ticket it's that driver for not parking within the lines. If you have to drive such a large vehicle then you should accept that it won't fit in every space. The far smaller Audi in front seems to have no problems fitting in the same width space.”

“I know the street & am sure there's no need to mount the pavement, the driver was either being too cautious or maybe pulling out from a restricted parking space.”
