The Ultravox front man and co-founder of Live Aid, who lives near the city, will be part of the judging panel that runs the rule over all the entrants from Bath.

The nationwide competition was launched to raise awareness of live music and intellectual property issues in Parliament, and Bath MP Don Foster MP is looking for the city’s best.

Ure will join Mr Foster and Ali Smith, chief executive of Somerset arts organisation Superact, to choose winners for the Bath constituency in six categories.

These are best soloist, best band, best small venue, best music video, best under-19 soloist and best under-19 band.

For the over-19s and venue owners, the judges will select winners based on online entries.

For under-19s, the panel will cast their eyes over soloists, bands and video-makers in a live final on Thursday March 21 at City of Bath College.

Not only will winning performers be nominated for the national finals, but they will receive a whole host of prizes provided by Superact including mentoring and training.

Mr Foster said: “I’m absolutely delighted that Midge has agreed to help out with Rock the House this year as we have a great musical heritage here in Bath with fantastic bands, soloists and venues.

“Rock the House will give people the chance to get noticed locally and perhaps beyond.”

The deadline is next Thursday, March 7.
