Mark joins top ranks
KARATE Mark Walker has become the latest member of Bath Karate Club to achieve his 3rd Dan black belt.
Traditionally seen as the first of the senior black belt grades, the rank confers the status of international instructor and would allow Walker to open a club anywhere in the world.

The grading took place at the University of Bath under the gaze of 8th Dan Sensei Andy Sherry, the Karate Union of Great Britain's chief instructor.
Walker began training 22 years ago and for the past 12 months has been putting in the extra effort required to pass the mentally and physically demanding grading. He followed in the footsteps of Rob Davis and Dave Forde, two other members of the Bath club who achieved the same rank earlier in the year.

Senior instructor Keiran Shore said: "This has been an excellent year for us, possibly the best in our 43-year history in that we have had three members promoted to 3rd Dan.
"Also, Sam Milford passed his 2nd Dan and Emma McDermott passed her coveted 1st Dan black belt.
"The Bath club has developed a reputation as the place to go if you are training for a higher-rank grading. We've never had so many senior grades all training at the same time and there's a real buzz in the air on club nights."
