A manhunt is underway in Frome after a child was abducted
Police officers are still on patrol in the town, but they no longer believe that there is any danger to children or the public.
A police spokesman said: "We have conducted an investigation on the basis of a report made to us yesterday afternoon and found that it had no basis in truth. Whilst we would encourage parents to be vigilant about the movement of young children, we would like to reassure the public that Frome is a safe place to bring up children."
