Man suffers head injuries
Two Bath men charged in connection with a serious assault which left a 32-year-old man fighting for his life have appeared before a crown court judge.
Luke Richardson and Aaron Schofield are both charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and violent disorder.
Lee Mitchell, from London, was left with head injuries following an attack in Quiet Street on the evening of Saturday, August 14.
Richardson, 19, of South View Road, and Schofield, also 19, of Armes Court, appeared via video link from prison for a preliminary hearing at Bristol Crown Court last week and will next appear on December 30 when they will be asked to enter pleas.
A well-used footbridge in Bath is being shut in a safety alert.
Victoria Bridge will be closed from today after a routine check threw up a structural fault.
Bath and North East Somerset Council said the closure was necessary to enable engineers to assess the fault properly and as a precaution in the interests of public safety. It said further details about the condition of the bridge and when it might be reopened would be released when a full assessment had taken place.
Three men were arrested at a Bath City game on Saturday.
Police were called to Twerton Park during the clash with York City after reports of a disturbance.
Three men, aged 25, 30 and 46, were arrested on suspicion of affray and have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
