Majority of lions now out on the streets of Bath
The vast majority of Bath’s pride of lion sculptures are now on the city’s streets.
A map is now available to help people track down what will eventually be 100 life-sized model lions which are at the centre of a summer public art project.
-
The map - which also lists out-of-town lions such as those at Freshford and Corsham - can be picked up from the Lions of Bath project headquarters on the lower level of the Milsom Place shopping centre.
Around 85 of the lions - all sponsored by local organisations - have so far been installed.
The maps also have a voucher offering savings on Passport Tickets at project sponsor Longleat until the end of October.
Organiser Megan Witty said: “We are delighted to have the maps at last because so many people have been asking for them.
“Thanks to Milsom Place, we have a wonderfully central information point and shop where the maps and other lion mementos are available and we look forward to welcoming visitors throughout the summer.”
Other outlets stocking maps will be Bath Tourist Information Centre, the Bath Festivals Office, Oldfield Park Bookshop, Waterstone’s, the Framing Workshop, Hampton’s International, the Galleries shop at Freshford, Woody’s Farm Shop at Norton St Philip, Rudloe Stone and Bradford on Avon Tourist Information Centre.
The lions - all individually decorated to reflect their sponsors - will remain on public display throughout the summer before being collected in September to be restored to their former glory in preparation for the Lions Roar Goodbye event on October 9 and 10.
This will see all the lions gathered together in front of the Royal Crescent for a public farewell before they are auctioned on October 15 and 17.
Profits from the auction will be donated to three charities - Off the Record, the Quartet Community Foundation and the Mayor’s Relief Fund for Bath as well as providing a legacy fund for future public art events in the city.
