North East Somerset MP Jacob Rees-Mogg is celebrating becoming a dad for the fourth time.

The 43-year-old Conservative and his wife Helena have named their son Anselm, after a saint and 11th-century Archbishop of Canterbury. Weighing in at 8lb and 5oz, his full name is Anselm Charles Fitzwilliam Rees- Mogg.

The other names come from Mr Rees-Mogg's ancestor Charles, Marquis of Rockingham who was Prime Minister in the 18th century, while Fitzwilliam is the family name of his wife on her mother's side.

The couple's other children are Peter, four, Mary, three and Thomas, two.

“I would always contragulate anyone on the birth of a child. However, I worry about the opportunities he and his government are taking away from most children born today.”

“Anselm was a great philosopher and theologian, who for example developed the "ontological argument" for the existence of God which many argue for or against today. There are worse people to be named after.

Funnily enough, most people are named after saints (apart from Chardonnay, Brooklyn etc), so I'm not sure what the significance of the headline is.”

“How many more times is this story going to make the Chronicle website??? What a pity our schoolchildren did not receive the same publicity after their event on Monday morning this week. We do NOT need to know about an MP's latest edition to his family!!!!!!!!!!”
