The former landlady of a troubled Bath pub hopes to make a welcome return to the premises after politicians removed the existing licensee – her daughter.

Samantha Humphries, who ran the pub for nearly two years, was deemed unfit to remain in charge of the Full Moon in Twerton last month after councillors ordered her removal as the landlady.

Politicians made the decision to withdraw her from the pub at a licensing meeting last month after police claimed she had "lost control" of the premises following a string of incidents.

Admiral Taverns, the chain which owns the pub, has now submitted an application which, if granted, would see Ms Humphries's mother Lorraine Dyer become the licence holder once more.

Mrs Dyer previously ran the pub for five years.

Cllr Tim Ball (Lib Dem, Twerton) said: "I'm delighted Lorraine is taking it back and that is the best possible news for the pub and for the customers – and will be great news for Sam as well.

"I can't see that it is a problem and I will support the application.

"Lorraine showed exceptional management of the pub before and there were no problems."

Ms Humphries's partner this week denied assaulting a man during an incident which began in the pub.

Lee McEwan is alleged to have attacked Kevin Fry on February 22 this year.

The 35-year-old, who lives at the Full Moon, appeared at Bristol Crown Court to plead not guilty to a charge of assault by beating.

McEwan, together with Mark Culley, aged 50, of Warwick Road, Keynsham, and Bryon Skipp, aged 36, of Whiteway Road, Bath, all denied a joint charge of affray on the same date. The case was adjourned for trial on a date to be fixed.
