If you see a pupil at a Bath school on their MP3 player, it may not be playing Lady Gaga or Jay Z.

At King Edward's School, they're just as likely to be listening to a snatch of Latin or Greek.

Podcasts created by head of classics Seth Bolderow are going down a storm with students - and are being downloaded by people from all over the world.

Since they started earlier this month, 200 people have downloaded them - with fans as far afield as the USA.

He said: "It started as a way of helping the younger pupils to learn their vocabulary but it has since expanded to help the older pupils learn their set texts for GCSE and A-level.

"I knew that our pupils found the podcasts useful, what surprised me was the number of people downloading them from around the world. We now have listeners not only in the UK, but in places as far afield as Oslo and Los Angeles."

Mr Bolderow says the success of the podcasts is down to the fact that they can be used by pupils as they travel to and from school.

"The podcasts allow pupils to take their Latin and Greek vocabulary with them wherever they go on their MP3 players; any time, any place, anywhere."

The popularity of the downloads has encouraged the classics department to add a link from the school website, www.kesbath.com and on iTunes, so that other pupils studying the languages can use them too.

Mr Bolderow has already planned the next session of podcasts which will include recordings from the pupils themselves.
