You probably know the story; four children, evacuated from London during the Second World War go to live in country house.
Hiding from a tyrant housekeeper they go into a wardrobe to find it leads to a fantasy land ruled by the White Witch.
Winter is everlasting, animals talk, there's Father Christmas and grand lion called Aslan who helps them to fight the Witch and her wolves.
But of course it's more complicated than that, and the nerds amongst us acknowledge that it's also an allegory of the crucifixion and resurrection.
Forget the above though and accept it as great story, well acted and directed with super effects, a good set, and a happy ending. What else could you want?
The four children are excelent, with Ann Roberts as Lucy getting probably the best part and revelling in it. Also, the wolves were scary and really howled well, but with such a huge cast, including child dancers, it's impossible to credit individuals when the ensemble were so good.
A fitting conclusion to the season and you should get to The Rondo and see it before we all get snowed in.
