Legion ‘appalled’ by memorial vandalism
A pair of gates at a war memorial, designed by children, have been smashed.
The Trowbridge branch of the Royal British Legion branch said the culprit must have used a hammer to knock off two of four metal poppies.
The gates, fitted in the summer after a winning design by St Augustine’s pupil Louis Williamson, were to be formally dedicated at the end of October.
A third poppy was damaged in the attack, which Maj Peter Williams, the branch chairman said he thought was pure vandalism but might have been metal theft.
