Lang claims open victory
CYCLING In-form Ben Lang triumphed for the hosts as Bath Cycling Club held its open 25-mile time trial on the demanding Maiden Bradley-Frome bypass circuit.
Lang had a convincing win in a time of 56mins 11secs ahead of runner-up Dave Kiddell (Cavalier Cycling Club) in 57:17. Lang also won the coveted George Carter trophy for his winning time. VC St Raphael's Andy Stuart took third place with a time of 59:57.
Bath's George Rowntree clocked 1hr 00:42 to snatch fourth place overall.
Past winner Rob Pears was suffering from a head cold and clocked 1:01:02 having managed a 51-minute ride for the same distance the previous week.
Bath's Tom Ryan won the first veteran's prize and the Tony Mitchell Shield with a time of 1:03:24.
Dave Summers decided to make things hard for himself by riding a low fixed gear cycle and finished in 1:10:32.
Club-mates Tony Thorne (1:06:10), Peter Wilson (1:10:15) and Chris Atchison (1:10:53) also completed the course.

“Slow I may have been, but I rode a medium gear bike, rather than a low one.
But I wasn't 1:10:32 slow - I went all of 30" quicker to do a 1:10:02 ...”
