Eastmond's home leave
Luckless rugby league convert Kyle Eastmond has been given a week's leave after suffering another injury.
The 22-year-old has been told by the club's management to spend time rehabilitating with his family in Greater Manchester after tearing a hamstring in training, condemning him to the sidelines for another month.
The former England rugby league star, who has made just one off-the-bench appearance since arriving from St Helens, is described as being "devastated" by his latest setback.
But first-team coach Brad Davis said Bath were doing all they could to ensure Eastmond – who has also suffered groin and knee injuries in his time at The Rec – remained as upbeat as possible.
"With setbacks after long-term injuries it's the mental state you've got to be really aware of," said Davis.
"To be honest I think we've got that spot-on at Bath. We understand that.
"Kyle's got a really strong support group around him in the squad. The players are always knocking about together around town. The care is always there – we have a good handle on that in Bath.
"Kyle is itching to get out on the field, because until he can do that he can't show everyone what he can do.
"He is desperate to be back and well, he just needs to have a little luck right now."
Another Bath player down on his luck is captain Stuart Hooper, who was forced off the pitch against Northampton less than half-an-hour into his comeback from a broken wrist.
Initially, the club feared Hooper would need surgery to repair a displaced eye-socket but X-rays have revealed that the injury – sustained while the lock forward made a tackle – is less serious than first feared.
"There's a fracture there but it isn't displaced so Stuart won't need any surgery," said Davis.
"He should be available in three weeks, which is a relief for us and a massive relief for the player himself because he's been very unfortunate so far this season."
Lewis Moody (shoulder) and Mark McMillan (knee) returned to non-contact training with the squad on Tuesday, while flanker Carl Fearns is doing rehabilitation running with the club's strength and conditioning team as he continues his slow recovery from a complicated knee problem.
