Defending champion Simon Tonui, also of Kenya, had to settle for third place this time around after running 1:04:29.

The women’s race saw a British one-two, with Stoke’s Michelle Ross-Cope recording a personal best of 1:12:07 to beat Leeds’ Susan Partridge (1:12:45) into second place.

Kenyan Joyce Kandie was some way behind the pair in third spot in a time of 1:15:12.
