SNOOKER There will be an added edge to Judd Trump's meeting with local rival Stephen Lee next week – because a place on snooker's biggest stage is at stake.

The 19-year-old Keynsham potter will take on Trowbridge-based Lee on Monday in the final qualifying round for next month's World Championships at The Crucible.

Trump will go into the clash full of confidence after breezing past Joe Delaney in his first qualifying match, beating the Irishman 10-1 at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield on Tuesday.

"To reach the World Championships would be absolutely massive for me," said Trump, who practices at Keynsham Snooker Centre.

"The World Championships is the biggest event on the calendar, everybody wants to make sure they are there.

"I was struggling a bit early on against Delaney but I managed to settle into the match and play some good snooker.

"I can get some more practice in ahead of the match (against Lee), have a few days off and come back here refreshed and ready for what will be a tough match."

Trump has mixed memories of qualifying for the World Championships. In 2007, he became the youngest player for 14 years to reach The Crucible, beating James Wattana 10-5 in the final qualifying round.

He went on play 2005 World Champion Shaun Murphy in the first round proper, going down 10-6 after an impressive display.

However, Trump's hopes of a return to Sheffield last year were dashed when he lost 10-9 to Joe Swail in the final qualifier, despite having led 9-7.

Lee, who beat Trump convincingly at the Northern Ireland Trophy earlier in the season, reached the semi-finals of the 2003 World Championship.
