Jools to headline event where 'Glasto meets the Olympics'
Jazz musician Jools Holland is to be the main attraction at a music and sports festival in Bath this summer.
The Sulis Sound Track Festival at the city's racecourse on Saturday, July 21 has been inspired by the Olympics, which starts the following weekend.
It has been organised by Bath Music Plus, an organisation aiming to put the city more firmly on the musical map.
Jools Holland and His Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, rock and blues band Vintage Trouble and reggae/ska outfit The Skints will play at the festival, which will also feature an all-day programme of sports activities for families.
These will be laid on by Bath and North East Somerset Council's sport and active lifestyles team.
Bath Music Plus co-founder Phil Castang said: "We were inspired by London 2012 to do something exceptional. It's our Glastonbury meets the Olympics."
Holland recently sold out the Royal Albert Hall in London and he and his 20-piece band play to more than 200,000 people a year.
Vintage Trouble supported Brian May and the Anthems tour which ended in Bath last year.
The festival will also showcase some of the region's finest emerging bands such as Will and the People, The Lash, Ulysses, Tallis Morris, Lily Stokes, and Bite the Buffalo.
Sulis Sound Track will feature two performance stages. Every sports club in B&NES has been invited to attend so that festival goers can sample fencing, archery, judo, hockey, athletics, cycling/BMX, volleyball, basketball, rowing, football, tae kwondo, rugby, wrestling, boxing and golf.
There will also be a range of activities planned for the under-fives, while the event will also feature the Cotswold Way 10km race.
B&NES sport and active lifestyles team project officer Martin Pellow said: "We are very excited to be able to offer these opportunities for people to try an Olympic sport just one week before the opening ceremony of London 2012.
"We hope that families will be inspired, get active and have fun as they take on the challenge of learning a new sport. This is a key element of the Get Active strategy which aims to get more people, more active, more of the time."
There will be updates at www.bathmusicplus.co.uk.
The event is a not-for-profit one and early bird family tickets for two adults and two under-16s will cost £70.
