Chinese New Year celebrations
There is plenty to do for all ages and a second chance for a party too.
For a free family day out why not visit the Museum of East Asian Art.
Dramatic lion and and dragon dances are among the highlights of the museum's celebrations.
Marvel at a Chinese circus show performed by The Chinese London Acrobatics, martial arts, traditional Chinese dance, a firecracker display and arts and crafts activities for all the family.
The museum is also running half-term Dragon Workshops in mid-February at a cost of £2.00 per person.
Children can try their hand at making origami and dragon puppets, paper cutting - a traditional form of Chinese craft - and make some beautiful decorations and masks to take home.
It is advisable to book in advance for the three workshops which will take place on February 15, 16 and 17 between 2–4pm.
The Chinese Lunar New Year can fall anytime between January 21 and February 21 in the Gregorian calendar and this year is on Sunday, January 29.
Each year is symbolised by one of 12 animals and 2012 is the year of the dragon, a creature symbolic of power, strength, and more importantly, good luck.
When the day-time fun and games are over the celebrations don't stop.
Head for one of Bath's Chinese restaurants to see in the new year.
Hong Kong Bistro at Southgate is another popular choice.
Excellent portions of mouth-watering dishes are served up in a warm and friendly setting. The Chow Mein comes with a special recommendation.
Peking Chinese on New Street claims to be Bath's longest established Chinese restaurant, and the experience shows.
The restaurant offers a variety of specially-selected dishes created from Cantonese, Szechuan and Peking cuisine. The Peking Duck is a particular speciality, but it is prepared entirely in premises so book in advance.
The Real China on James Street is a tastefully-designed restaurant in the heart of Bath.
It offers a great range of traditional Chinese and East Asian dishes, from tasty appetisers such as aromatic duck pancakes and Chinese dumplings, to main courses including beef in oyster sauce and sweet-and-sour chicken.
If you prefer to celebrate in the comfort of your own home why not order a takeaway.

“it's apparent the author of this article doesn't have a clue about the importance of the food that is served at Chinese New Year, hence the helpful suggestion to order a takeaway. It's appalling and downright ignorant - one wouldn't advise a Brit to pop over to his local chippy for a delicious meal at Christmas now, eh?”
