Former Writhlington pupil has the X Factor

A 21-year-old singer who grew up in Peasedown St John has made it through to the judges' houses round of TV talent show The X Factor.

Jahmene Douglas, who now lives in Swindon and works as a shelf stacker in Asda, is one of the early favourites to win the show after wowing audiences with his performances of At Last by Etta James and Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow by the Shirelles.

This weekend will see audiences watch him try to impress the boys' group judge Pussycat Doll singer Nicole Scherzinger at a resort in Dubai.

Jahmene was first featured in the local press when he was 14 years old and was already showing the signs of becoming a successful singer.

The former Writhlington School pupil, who lived with his mum Mandy Thomas, had performed in the Bath International Music Festival and at the time was travelling to London to audition for record labels.

Since his appearances on The X Factor, Jahmene has built up a strong following of fans and already has more than 11,000 likes on his Facebook page.
