The Government has been urged to change the law on dangerous dogs after a vicious attack in an MP’s garden. North East Somerset MP Jacob Rees-Mogg has presented a petition with thousands of signatures calling for dog attacks on other animals to be made illegal.

The petition also calls for owners to be held responsible for their pets’ actions.

It follows an attack on a dog at Mr Rees-Mogg’s constituency home in West Harptree. Dozer, a labrador belonging to the MP’s housekeper, almost died in the incident.
