Tolls on the Severn bridges are to rise by up to 3.3 per cent next year, above the November rate of inflation at 2.7 per cent.

Cars travelling from England to Wales on the M4 and M48 crossings will be charged £6.20 from January 1 – up from £6.

Transport Minister Stephen Hammond said the cost for vans and minibuses travelling west would rise from £12.10 to £12.40 (2.5 per cent), and from £18.10 to £18.60 (2.8 per cent) for lorries and coaches.

He said: “The toll levels will be confirmed in an order made by the Secretary of State in December.”
