TeamBath Academy player India Sanders has risen to seventh in the Lawn Tennis Association's under-14 girls' national tennis rankings, which came out this week.

The Monkton Combe School pupil has also made it into the top 100 in Europe in her age group, being placed at 79th in the European Tennis Association rankings for the new year.

Together with taking the number one spot in the Avon county under-14s rankings and number two in the under-16s, this marks the culmination of a successful 2009 campaign.

"I am thrilled," said Sanders. "I have trained hard and put a lot of effort into competing this year, both here and in Europe.

"We have some very strong players in my age group, so that makes it even more satisfying."

Having been accepted into the main draw, the 13-year-old will next be competing in Bolton later this month at the European Tennis Association Teen Tennis event.

It is a category one event and attracts the best under-14 girls from around Europe and the US.

"I have not competed at this level before so I am not putting any pressure on myself, it is great just to have made it into the main draw," said India.

"I just want to put my best tennis on the court and see what I can do. Being among these top girls is going to be a real challenge but it will be great experience for taking my tennis to the next level."

Sanders is sponsored by Head and trains with Eve Langley, Barry Scollo and the team at the TeamBath Tennis Academy.
