All these Independents will liven things up
How interesting Bryan Chalker has become disillusioned with the Conservatives.
Bryan is one of our city's most colourful characters and there must be something seriously wrong for Bryan to become so disenchanted.
I can understand Bryan's disenchantment, having been Conservative minded myself, until Mrs Haeberling alienated core voters.
Bryan said he 'cannot be alone in losing all faith in David Cameron'.

You aren't, Bryan. Only diehard Tories aren't disillusioned. Is this gentleman even a Conservative? For goodness sake, who wishes to 'hug a hoodie'?
It must be seriously questioned if someone born with a silver spoon in their mouth can understand ordinary people. There is nothing in his actions so far that says he does.
No wonder traditional Tories are skipping in droves to UKIP!
One thing is for sure, with Bryan Chalker and Dave Laming on the independent benches, the council chamber is going to be a lively place.
On another point, I was greatly amused by Wyn Rees' recent letter on residents' associations. Welcome to the club, Wyn. We in Newbridge know all about residents' associations. I once likened Henry Brown's Federation of Bath Residents' Associations to the Bath Conservative Party at prayer.
They didn't disappoint us. They lent their name to a Conservative wrecking amendment which subsequently proved so out of touch, the Conservatives lost an election over it.
I would acknowledge it is convenient for councils to have such organisations to 'sound off'. But it must be remembered theirs is just one view and usually elitist.
It is why I question FoBRA's presence on the Transport Commission as they can't possibly purport to put the view of all residents.

“Not for the first time, although my NY resolution is not to make a habit of it, but I tend to agree with you on this DaveF. All these non elected bodies purporting to represent the good folk of Bath I suggest helps keep the City in the darkness of the Georgian/Victorian mindsets, when in fact there's a perfectly good democratic outfit known as the elected members more than capable of doing just that. Unless of course one is prepared to get off ones butt and introduce some innovative independent thought into proceedings, and rock the established four hundred year old cosy cartel.”

It doesn't even represent some (most?) members within each resident's association.”
