Ill Anya Shrubsole misses out as England Women secure third place at World Cup
Bath seamer Anya Shrubsole was missing through illness as England finished their ICC Women’s World Cup campaign on a high with a four-wicket victory over New Zealand in today’s third-place play-off.
Captain Charlotte Edwards struck an unbeaten 106 as the holders – who will be succeeded by either the West Indies or Australia this weekend – chased down 221 in the second meeting of the sides in the space of two days.

Opener Edwards did enjoy a moment of fortune when given not out on 99 having clearly edged Lea Tahuhu behind, yet that did not detract from an outstanding knock.
In reaching the milestone, England’s skipper joined Claire Taylor and Karen Rolton as the most prolific century-makers in the women’s ODIs with eight.
