Hockey: Kingswood reign supreme at inaugural Beechen Cliff sevens tournament
Kingswood reigned supreme when four of Bath’s top hockey schools battled it out in the inaugural Verde Recreo Beechen Cliff Super 7s tournament.
King Edward’s and Prior Park also contested an afternoon of fast, exciting hockey in what is hoped will become a showpiece event in the school hockey calendar.
The hosts kicked off proceedings with a 2-0 win over KES but then lost 2-1 to both Kingswood and Prior Park in tight encounters to miss out on a place in the final.
That was a close affair which saw Kingswood defeat Prior Park on a penalty shuttle shootout after the teams finished the game locked together at 1-1.

Verde Recreo director James Jenkins presented the winners’ trophy to Kingswood captain Toby Briggs, while Prior’s Will Garner collected an Uber hockey stick after being recognised as the player of the tournament.
Beechen head of hockey Tim Davenport said: “I was delighted with the tournament. It’s great for the boys to play a different format of the game – one that promotes fast, attacking hockey.
