Hinton Charterhouse, Combe Down and The Star progress in Bath Indoor Cricket League Cup
Hinton Charterhouse reached the second round of the Bath Indoor Cricket League Knockout Cup with victory over The Nearly Men, who hope to progress as highest-scoring losers.
Chris Howard scored 23 not out as they fell just 19 runs short of Hinton’s excellent total of 120-5, which was built on good knocks from Richard Paige (33), Matt Brierley (31no) and John Newport (21).
Bowling was to the fore in the match between The Star and Bath Pedigree, who were dismissed for just 45 after an excellent display from Geoff Parkhurst – whose figures of 4-5 included a double-wicket maiden – and three very good catches.
However, The Star were forced to use more than seven overs to chase this meagre target down for the loss of two wickets, with Greg Macdonald’s 1-6 bearing special mention.

Division 1 champions Combe Down rattled up a mammoth target of 137-4 against Division 2 bottom club Bathampton, with Jamie Mitchell (38no) and Tom Hulbert (32) top scoring.
Mitchell (2-5) also bowled a maiden over and Clive Hulbert took 1-8 as valiant Bathampton scored 65-5 from their ten overs, including a fine 29 from Johnny Lewis.
The remaining first round matches are being played this week, with Bath Hospital being given a bye.
