Hi-tech way of learning about historic canals
People are going to be given a very modern way of learning about the 200-year-old history of the Kennet and Avon Canal in Bath.
A new audio story trail, which works by people using their smart phones to scan a code at certain sites along the canal as a way to access free information, has been launched this week.
The two-mile circular route includes Halfpenny Bridge, the tollbridge behind Bath Spa railway station, which collapsed in 1877 killing ten people and throwing many more into the water, Sydney Gardens, the scene of an historic dispute over the route the canal would take through Bath, and Cleveland House, said to be one of the most distinctive buildings on the national canal network.
Sarah Brice, project manager at the recently formed Canal and River Trust, said the new guides would give people an opportunity to learn so much more about something which was right on their doorstep.
