Grand finale for music challenge
A musical challenge to get a group of villagers to pass a grade one music exam for charity comes to a head this week after six months of training.
The Grade-One-Athon Music Challenge launched by the Marshfield-based Pappa Fund sees the amateur musicians between the ages of 15 and 70 – most of whom have never played an instrument before – take their Grade One exams with the aim of raising £3,000 in sponsorship money.
The 39-strong group have learned a wide range of instruments including viola, piano, cello, guitar as well as voice and music theory for the fund, which supports health centres and an orphanage on a small island off the coast of southern India.
