DIVING Golden girls Ria Oliver and Eve MacCallum finished first for West Wiltshire Diving Club at this year's Gavin Brown Love to Dive Competition in Southampton.

Ria, the club's youngest diver, performed consistently through six rounds of the girls' 8/9-years springboard category to beat members of the home club, who are part of Southampton's Talent ID programme.

Eve, in the girls' 12/13-years springboard, easily held on to an early lead for victory. Her highest score of 32 points for an inward dive with tuck guaranteed the gold medal, 17.2 points ahead of the second-placed diver.

Team-mate Courtney Gale joined Eve on the podium in third place, fighting back after a disappointing fourth-round score.

More medal success followed for Charlotte Cullum, competing at diving for the first time, as she achieved third place in the girls' 14/18-years springboard.

The squad's only boy, Jordan Taylor, also received an award for his sixth place in the 10/11-years springboard event.

West Wiltshire's eight divers came third out of the nine clubs in the overall team event, with only Southampton Diving Academy and Star Diving from Guilford ahead of them.

" I am really pleased with the divers' performances – a great start to the year." said head coach Melanie Sweetman.

"There's always a friendly and relaxed atmosphere at this event making it a positive experience, especially for our younger and less experienced divers."

Divers also had the opportunity to see Max Brick, one of Southampton's international divers and Tom Daley's synchro partner, perform a dive from the 10-metre platform.
