Freshford United's title hopes dented in seven-goal thriller at Boomsbury

Freshford United’s hopes of reclaiming the Trowbridge Windows & Conservatories Trowbridge League Division 1 title suffered a huge blow as they went down 4-3 in their top-of-the-table clash at Boomsbury.

The hosts went ahead through Steve Jackson’s penalty before Russell Whatley equalised with a stunning 35-yarder.

A second penalty from Jackson was cancelled out by Elliot Carris-Smith before Darren Jones put the table-topping Boomsbury 3-2 up. Back came Freshford again through Chris Bristow but Scott Askew set up Jackson for his third of the day and a winner that took Boomsbury seven points clear of their visitors at the summit.

Castle Combe climbed out of the relegation zone thanks to a much-needed 1-0 victory at Bradford United.

Ryan Salter struck three minutes from time to earn Combe only their second league win of the season and their first since they beat Seend back in September.

Division 3 leaders Westwood News remain on course for the title after their they stretched their winning run to 12 matches with a 9-1 win over Levi’s.

Steve Lewin pounced on a goalkeeping error to put Levi’s in front but Westwood roared back, with Ben Ludwell hitting a hat-trick. Richard Jones and second-half substitutes Dan Thorne and Mark Robinson scored two apiece as Westwood opened up an 11-point lead over second-placed Bradford United Reserves.
