Fresh, clean and bang up to date
Well they say that one man's meat is another man's poison. This certainly seems to be the case regarding the new Waitrose Cafe which I visited for the first time yesterday.
I couldn't disagree with Stephen Marks more whose criticism in last week's edition left me a bit bemused. For me, the new cafe is a huge improvement on what was upstairs at the Podium before.
It's fresh, clean and the soft grey and cream decor is bang up to date. The noise Mr Marks referred to I would call 'buzz' – the buzz of a very popular eating and meeting place.
I'm not quite sure what view of the river we've lost because the only view I remember was from a balcony outside Cawardines and that was only available a few days a year and only if you stood up and peered over the parapet.

I had a very nice cup of filtered coffee yesterday with a freshly baked toasted teacake (picture attached) all for £2.65. Fantastic value, I thought. I shall definitely being going there again.
