French flair triumphs at Bath Boules tournament
A team from France has won one of the titles in an annual Boules contest in Bath - while the other was one by a French restaurant.
Groups of families, friends and workmates gathered in Queen Square at the weekend to take part in the Bath Boules tournament which aims to raise thousands of pounds for charity.
And on the first day, the winning team was a contingent from the city’s French twin town of Aix-en-Provence.
There was a slightly more home-grown victor on Sunday, in the shape of Saville Row French restaurant Casanis.

The event consists of a series of heats, with winners going forward to the knock-out stages.
Participants braved heavy showers in some of Saturday's later games, with finalists competing in torrential rain.
Businesses and organisations from across the city and district got into the spirit of the event.
Last year’s tournament raised around £16,000 for charity and organisers were hoping to top that this year, raising funds for three local organisations, Off the Record, Julian House and Dorothy House.
Simon Harrison, chairman of Portico Business Services which organises the tournament, said: “Everyone wants to come and people say it is the best social event in Bath.
“We have 128 teams, with three people in a team and they all bring family so it’s a really sociable event.”
He added: “There are events that people go to in Bath but not where they are interacting with each other, and here they can play in teams and with their families.
“People can meet friends, there’s great food and they know all the proceeds go to charity - what’s not to like.”

“The third Chronicle 'faux pas' in a week. What's going on? Is the Saturday boy standing in 'til the new editor arrives? I doubt that even 'Eyekantspel' from these pages would have made the howlers we've had to endure this week. Not even a Paul Wiltshire apology.... It's enough to make you take up the Daily Mail....”

“That's a bit cheeky coming over here and winning when they invented the game. How would they feel if we went to Aix-en-Provence and entered their football tournament.”
