The event is organised by the Forever Friends Appeal for its Cancer Care Campaign, which aims to raise £5 million towards the cost of building a new treatment centre at the Royal United Hospital.

The Walk of Life was created in memory of Vanessa Kyte, who died at the age of 43 in November 2007, after seven years of fighting the disease.

Each year her friends and family, led by sister Nic Noble, fundraise in her memory.

Nic said: "The Walk of Life is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the life and memories of your loved ones. We look forward to this event every year and for me, knowing that all the money raised is going to help build a new cancer unit, that Ness dreamt of, is an added bonus. I love it when I see the local community coming together to support such a wonderful cause."

The walk on Saturday, May 18, is sponsored by law firm Mogers.

Participants can choose to walk the full 21 miles from Devizes to Bath, 12 miles in the morning from Devizes to Bradford, or nine miles in the afternoon from Bradford to Bath.

Entry is £15 each and walkers are encouraged to raise as much sponsorship as possible, with the event bringing in £30,000 last year.

Appeal events and community officer Jo Hones said: "The Walk of Life is an absolutely stunning walk and I love being out and about on the day seeing the smiles on our walkers' faces."
