Megan Fletcher led the medal charge for Team Bath Judo Club at the 2013 British Championships as she struck gold in Sheffield.

And there was a memorable return to action for London 2012 silver-medalist Gemma Gibbons, who was crowned as British champion for the first time in her career.

Fletcher’s triumph came in the senior women’s under-70kg category, where club colleague Natasha Maslen finished third overall.

Promising youngster Jemima Duxbury claimed an eye-catching silver in the under-63kg division, just 24 hours after achieving the same success in the British Junior Championships.

And Freya de Chastelain also had a busy weekend in Sheffield, winning under-52kg bronze in the junior event and finishing fourth when she took on the seniors the following day.

University of Bath graduate Gibbons was the star of the show on Sunday, though, as she won all five of her under-78kg bouts in emphatic fashion on her way to the gold medal.

“It’s good to be back,” said Gibbons, who had not competed since breaking her hand while winning Olympic silver.

“It was my first senior British Championships win, which was very pleasing, and good preparation for returning to the international circuit.”

In the men’s competition, there were silver medals for Team Bath trio Tom Reed, Andy Burns and Ben Fletcher in the under-81kg, 90kg and 100kg categories respectively.

Jan Gosiewski was third in the under-73kg event, while Liam Ashton-Farr finished fifth in the same weight division during Saturday’s British Junior Championships.
