Firms hauled before court
Two more haulage firms have been prosecuted thanks to the Bradford on Avon Lorrywatch scheme.
Hoyer UK, of Leeds, pleaded guilty to one offence of breaching the 18-tonne weight restriction in the town, and will have to pay £740 which includes a fine of £650, a victim surcharge of £15 and £75 costs. Turners (Soham) of Newmarket, admitted three offences. For the first two offences the company will need to pay £650 each, and £750 for the third. Along with the victim surcharge and costs, the total penalty was £2,140.
The hearings at Chippenham Magistrates Court are part of a long-running campaign which has seen Lorrywatch volunteers becoming a familiar sight in the town centre. The scheme, which started last year, sees volunteers working with Bradford on Avon and Wiltshire councils to monitor vehicles infringing the Town Bridge weight limit.
