BUCCS MEN A 4-2 home win over local rivals Firebrands sent Team Bath Buccs 1sts to the top of the early England Hockey League Men's Conference West table.

Buccs started well but were unable to create any clear-cut openings, despite enjoying large periods of possession.

It was their Bristol opponents who took the lead in the 15th minute when Ben Trembath's scuffed finish beat keeper Tom Skinner.

Rollo Lewis made it 2-0 in the 28th minute when Buccs failed to track his run and he coolly converted his chance to leave the home side shell-shocked.

Buccs then came to life and hauled themselves level with two goals in the space of as many minutes before the half-time whistle.

First, Ben Carless flicked home a powerful penalty corner, before Tim Davenport fired into an open goal following some good work from Ieuan Davies.

The home side looked a much more focused unit at the start of the second half and dominated their opponents by keeping the ball for long spells.

Firebrands struggled to make an impact on the game and their job was made even harder when Irish international Stuart Loughrey finished from close range in the 42nd minute.

After missing a hatful of chances, Buccs sealed their win in the final minute when Davenport hit a reverse-stick shot low into the net after Ben Mackey found him with a searching ball.

Buccs will look to register their fourth win on the trot when they travel to the University of Exeter this weekend.

Buccs A maintained their unbeaten start to the Davis Wood League Premiership season, winning by the odd goal in nine at Taunton Vale, while Sabres B defeated Westbury & United Banks 2-1 in the Championship.

A 5-2 win at University of Exeter E put Buccs Admirals C top of the fledgling Central 1 standings.

Alex Tapping hit a hat-trick and Sam Francis impressed for Buccs, who travelled south with just 11 players.

Vikings E produced a much-improved performance to beat Swindon A 4-1.

Marcus Bowman struck three times and Rob Piesse added the other in a dominant display.

Ancient Mariners F had keeper Martin Bray to thank for a 3-1 home victory over West Wilts B.

Aaron Willis struck twice and Mark Talboys once for Buccs, who demonstrated plenty of teamwork in a game that was closer than the scoreline suggests.

Blades G twice came from behind to draw 2-2 at Swindon in East Central 2.

Jack Tucker tapped home the visitors' first equaliser and skipper Nick Kendall their second following an own goal from debutant Matt Garner.
