Fears shut car park
A city centre car park was closed for several days because of flooding in the city.
The three-tier SouthGate shopping centre car park was closed last Friday on safety grounds and remained closed over the weekend and again on Monday and Tuesday.
Almost 900 workers, visitors and shoppers who usually use the centre's car park were left to look for somewhere else to park in the city.
The car park, which opened three years ago, is a few hundred yards from the River Avon and, according to the owners, it was the rising river levels that caused the problem.

Centre manager Simon Pullen said: "We closed the car park on grounds of public safety on Friday afternoon. The extraordinary weather had caused the river level to rise above the outflows of the discharge pipes so the rainwater was unable to drain as usual."
The shops at SouthGate remained open during the car park's closure, and it reopened yesterday.
Among the conditions of the centre's planning permission was that the entire basement car park should be watertight and protected by an automated flood gate at the entrance ramp.
