Engineers had to be called in after drivers became stranded in a city centre car park.

New parking ticket machines at the Podium shopping centre car park malfunctioned yesterday just hours after being installed.

Sam Shore, director at Savills the agents responsible for running the car park on behalf of owner, O&H Q4, said the machines had suffered first day glitches.

He said today: “We can confirm that following installing a new payment system in the car park, the new machines had a software glitch affecting their performance. Engineers have worked through the night to rectify this matter, and we expect the cash pay machines to be fully functional today.”

“Looking at the (out of date) picture with this article, I must make a mental note to check when next passing if it is still labelled as the Podium "Shopping Centre" - bit of a misnomer now when all you have is ONE big shop.”

“Thank goodness it was private sector - had it been council run they would have charged those trapped extra for the extra parking time!”

“Nobody was late for work (uness they were FREAKS who paid on entrance at a pay on exit car park). But I imagine it was a good excuse. "Sorry boss, I couldn't come in because an evil, mal-functioning ticket machine gripped me in its evil claws and I was trapped for several hours. I also didn't notice the pedestrian exits, of which there are plenty"”

“But just to clarify, the drivers weren't trapped. It is like the Leveson Inquirer never happened.”

“didn't people take the law into their own hands and dismantle the Charlotte Street ones when the same thing happened a while back? Remember kids - always travel with a full toolkit in the boot.”
