Famous faces leave their mark on lion
Famous faces have decorated a lion as part of the Lions of Bath public art project.
The sculpture was on display at the World of Music, Art and Dance (Womad) Festival at Charlton Park in London.
It was signed by hundreds of the festival's performers, including entertainer and artist Rolf Harris and the event's founder Peter Gabriel, whose Real World Studios are in Box.
As Womad's logo is a lion, the beast took pride of place in the musicians VIP tent.
It was initially painted with a map of the world by Rossi, Womad's in-house artist, and then performers at the festival added their signatures within the outlines of their countries.
The Womad lion will be signed by musicians throughout the summer before being auctioned off with the other statues on October 9 and 10.
Meanwhile, one of the first lions to go on display has been repaired after being vandalised.
The Lion of Communication was so badly damaged in an attack in June that artist Ted Smith had to start again from scratch.
Two people were arrested at the scene after they were seen trying to uproot the lion, which is sponsored by online publisher From You to Me and anchored to the ground. The pair were released the following morning with a caution – but not ordered to pay anything towards the hundreds of pounds of repair costs.
The lion is now back in position in The Circus.
Each of the 100 lions in the collection have been distinctively decorated and sponsored by a city organisation or celebrity.
The project, which will see the lions in locations across Bath until October when they will be auctioned for charity, follows a similar scheme involving model pigs in 2008.
