It said: "During the weekend closures southbound traffic would be diverted at the Cold Ashton roundabout to take the A420 east to Chippenham where it would take the A350 south and then join the A4 west to travel to Bath and the London Road junction.
"Northbound traffic would be diverted at the London Road junction to follow this diversion route in the reverse direction to either join the A46 at Cold Ashton roundabout or travel north to the M4 from Chippenham."
Meanwhile work to add extra lanes to the Cold Ashton roundabout, in a bid to improve congestion, is due to take place at some time next year.

“I understand from the Highways Agency that the 'expansion' work will now take place in 2014, as the design and programming is not yet in place.”

“They're just going to add an extra lane to the southern approach to the roundabout?
When I heard the annoucement a few weeks ago about upgrading the roundabout, I assumed that they might upgrade all of it.
What about making it bigger? That's what I call an upgrade.”

“So, two lanes onto the roundabout, two lanes around the roundabout, one lane after the roundabout.
Of course, drivers will approach this at a sensible speed, will display impeccable observation and road reading skills and will treat other road users with great courtesy and consideration.
Or are they going to race each other around the roundabout, leading to vehicles colliding as they refuse to give way, sudden panic braking and general chaos?!!”

“Known as 'pinch point' improvement schemes ....
"A46 Cold Ashton Roundabout Improvement, South Gloucestershire - To resolve significant capacity issues and severe recurrent congestion, the scheme involves widening the A46 and A420 approaches to Cold Ashton roundabout and providing an additional lane so that two lanes circulate the roundabout"
