Euan's hoping to coin it in for lion conservation charity
A lion covered in coins will be helping to raise money for charity next month.
Euan is one of the last sculptures to join the Lions of Bath public arts project, which has seen 103 of the noble beasts dotted around the city this summer.
Euan will make an appearance at the Lions Roar Goodbye weekend on October 9 and 10 in Royal Victoria Park, ahead of two charity auctions the following weekend.
Sponsored by Bath creative agency Ideas of the Mind, Euan wears a coat of coins each bearing the image of a lion.
Some 2,200 coins – British 10p pieces and others from Congo in Africa – have been applied by hand to his body, while taking pride of place on his forehead is a 24ct gold replica of a 19th-century coin.
Half the proceeds of the sale of Euan will be donated to the Born Free Foundation to support lion conservation.
The rest of the money, along with the proceeds of the other sculptures, will go to three local charities.
A binding bid for your favourite lion can be made at www.givinglots.co.uk. Bidding ends on Tuesday and the highest bids will be carried forward to the live auctions on October 15 at the Assembly Rooms and October 17 at Komedia, where people can defend their bids by phone.
