Experienced England star Pamela Cookey will return to Team Bath for the 2013 Netball Superleague season.

Widely recognised as one of the world’s best attacking players, Cookey helped Team Bath win the title four times between 2006 and 2010 but spent last season with Surrey Storm.

The 28-year-old University of Bath business administration graduate will captain her country in their forthcoming series against Jamaica and next month’s Quad Series with Australia, New Zealand and South Africa and has 70 senior international caps to her name.

“It’s great to welcome Pamela home to Team Bath, it just wasn’t the same without her,” said Team Bath head coach Jess Garland.

“Pamela returns to a team that will have some young and exciting but mentally toughplayers.

“In the absence of some of our more experienced players last season, our young team had to step up to the plate and we came through a big journey together.

“We all learned a lot and we’re hungrier than ever to get back to winning ways. Having Pamela back in our squad will help us pursue our aspirations.”

Cookey was named  Superleague player of the season  in 2008, 2009 and 2010 and  is looking forward to the chance to link up with the likes of Asha Francis and Gemma Stewart (formerly Fletcher) again.

She said: “Team Bath has always been my home and I think that’s the best place for me to be.

“It was easier to make the decision to come back than it was to leave in the first place, but I needed the season at Storm and enjoyed my time there.

“I’m very excited about next season, it’s going to be really good. A few players are back who have been travelling and there are some good young players here too, not to mention Asha and Gemma.”

Team Bath are holding trials for their 2013 Superleague squad this month and next, with the line-up due to be announced in November. They are due to get their 2013 Superleague competition under way on with a home game against Celtic Dragons on Thursday, February 7.
