Bath Rugby head coach Gary Gold is planning to build his squad around Davey Wilson and Dave Attwood after the pack pair extended their contracts with the club today.

The England duo have become mainstays of a consistent Bath front five this term, with prop Wilson featuring in every one of his country’s RBS 6 Nations games.

Wilson, who joined from Newcastle Falcons in 2009, said: "Bath has become home for me now and I love the club.

“Everything a professional needs to excel is here – from coaching to facilities – and I feel very excited to be at a club that has so much support and ambition. I wouldn't be anywhere else."

Former Gloucester lock Attwood said: "I am very happy to have extended my contract with the club. The opportunity to be coached by this team in this environment means that I don't want to be anywhere else.

“We are on a journey, and we all believe that we will get to the top in time. I'm extremely excited to be a part of it."

Gold added: "These boys are the players around whom you can build a squad. They are young, English, talented and extremely tough.

“That they were both so keen to be involved in what we are working towards here at Bath is a real endorsement of the culture we are looking to create. We are very pleased to have retained their services."

Meanwhile, experienced Irish scrum-half Peter Stringer has extended his stay with Bath until the end of the season.

Stringer originally arrived from Munster as short-term cover for the injured Michael Claassens.

Gold said: "Strings has been superb since he arrived, both on the field and off it.

"He prepares himself exceptionally well, and knows the game as well as anybody. We are delighted to have retained a man of his experience.

"His influence will not only help the first team, but the aspiring professionals too."
