A Bath driver had a shock last night when he discovered a huge tree had crashed onto his vehicle.
The tree blocked the road through Batheaston after falling onto a parked Land Rover.

Another driver's car had a lucky escape as the Citroen parked in front was missed by the falling branches.
The dramatic moment was captured by former Bath Chronicle editor David Gledhill who took this picture on London Road West through Batheaston.

“The dramatic moment was captured..."
Sorry to be picky but surely any 'dramatic moment' would have been before the picture was taken, while the tree was in the process of falling.

“The pubs and chippy are up in arms about the loss of trade, what with it being a Thursday and one of their busiest nights of the year and not being informed by banes in advance. It was also reported that the shop had a run on milk and bread as locals stocked up on essentials in fear of being isolated. Don Foster of the libdems has asked for a full inquiry and will release a press statement shortly.....watch this space”

“The Easton and The Ford of Bath found themselves entirely cut off from civilisation until well past 9.30pm yesterday evening. During which time they reverted to their pagan ways and burned an effigy of Daniel O'Donnel by The Folly.
All is normal again this morning, the village shop is doing booming business by busying themselves talking about the drama while not serving villagers on their way to work of pre- retirement age.”

“Police are looking for a Liberal Democrat cyclist with a chain saw and notches on his handlebars.
I have to say I like the bit ""Motorists were forced to look for an alternative "".
Not that difficult really with a ruddy great by-pass running parallel - quite hard to miss really.”
