Delighted trader puts his raffle win down to market's lucky pig
A trader has managed to get his hands on one of the city's last remaining pig sculptures after winning a raffle.
More than 1,500 tickets were sold for the raffle.
With a reserve price of £1,250 many people had said how they could never afford one of the models, which commemorated Bath's legendary founding father Kind Bladud.
The winning ticket was picked by jazz singer Clare Teal at Waterstone's, and the lucky winner was the chairman of Guildhall Market Traders' Association Mike Watts.
The prize pig, Pigsaw, which was a back-up for the 105 life-size models seen on the streets of Bath this summer, will now take pride of place at the market.
Mr Watts attributed his win to the Guildhall model Juturna, which many shoppers and traders believe has brought luck to the market.
He said: "I feel elated. I couldn't believe it.
"Just that day I telling a friend who was visiting to rub the pig and he would get lucky. I rubbed it and won a pig. It is amazing."
Juturna, named after the Roman goddess of wells and springs, has become the centre of attention in the market since traders clubbed together to buy the model.
Visitors began touching the model in the hope its alleged healing powers would rub off on them.
Neston Park Farm Shop bought one of the popular models. Friedensreich, which was decorated by five art students from Culverhay School, was situated in South Parade earlier this year.
This week the pupils went to the shop to see their model in her new home.
Farm shop owner Lady Venetia Fuller said: "We are delighted to have Friedensreich here where everyone can still see her. We are hoping our free range organic pigs will like looking at her too."
