A specialist burger firm which is opening a restaurant in a new food quarter in Bath has named its opening date.

Gourmet Burger Kitchen will open at The Vaults next to Bath Spa railway station on December 3.

The firm had been planning to bring its Burger Bus to Old Bond Street today, for staff to hand out free burgers, but this has had to be postponed.

The Vaults is the final phase of the £360 million SouthGate development.

The firms behind the development, Aviva and Multi, have yet to confirm the names of all the tenants in the long-awaited scheme, which will open over the next few weeks.

Names already known include the Bertinet Bakery, Nandos, Prezzo, Jika-Jika and the Graze Bar, Brewery and Chophouse from Bath Ales.

The Vaults is set in the Victorian arches built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel in 1840, and reveal the original Bath stone structure.

It will eventually include six restaurants and four kiosks, as well as a large piazza where people will be able to sit outside.

Stuart Harris, partner at Queensberry Real Estate, which is advising the Southgate partnership, said: "We are delighted to complete the SouthGate development with The Vaults. It will be a real first for the area, there is simply nothing else like it."

The new outlets will create more than 200 jobs.

Maybe we will see some changes on the website?”

“I don't mind online ads as such - after all, if I buy a newspaper I am paying for pages with adverts printed on them along with the content I want - but the trashy ones for weight loss etc., and the links to equally trashy items about vodka tampons and so on make the online Chron look like part of the gutter press, and diminish your credibility. Why not carry ads for some local businesses instead?”

    “Paul:

I'm afraid that I'm not overwhelmed by either of the two articles you posted.

The first is an exceptionally anodyne version of the some of the events. If the council had asked you to write a story to attempt to supress any further discussion on their failings relating to RLM, then I wouldn't expect that to be a great deal different from what was published.

The second is a report on an event over a week after it happened. Hardly an immediate, concerned view of local events.

You also make no mention of where the story reporting the award of £100,000 is.”

“Yes, this website is definitely not free. When I'm not protected by AdBlockPlus it's one of the nastiest sites around for intrusive advertising. Automatic videos and poorly contextualised in-article keyword advertising makes it quite an unpleasant experience. I'd happily pay for an ad-free version (and I'd be a more profitable visitor as I never click on ads) but that's not something Northcliffe seems to have cottoned on to.”

“"people criticising a service they get for free"

Can we get something clear - we do not get this website for "free". Advertisements cost; paid for by us. The downloading of these Ads, especially the intrusive videos, which start automatically, & eat into the download allowance which is also paid for.”

“@paul wilshire ''I'm sorry you don't get the Chronicle itself. I'm tempted to say that what 'grinds my gears' is people criticising a service they get for free, but that would not be a constructive road to go down. So I won't.''
-Then why bother to mention it? Besides, it's a non-starter as it is your employers' commercial decision not to charge for online access, not mine. In the big wide world there are many, many situations where 'comment is free' - welcome to the 21st century!”

“Rob:Thanks for the feedback, and you have indeed missed two stories.

    and

Dave: Thank you for answering my question. I'm not entirely convinced that we can stretch the VC issue any further than we have already stretched it, but I'll bear your comments in mind. As for thisisbath, the choice of news items is beyond my control, as are any decisions regarding banning users. I'm sorry you don't get the Chronicle itself. I'm tempted to say that what 'grinds my gears' is people criticising a service they get for free, but that would not be a constructive road to go down. So I won't.
