Conman's bluffcalled
An 82-year-old woman from Keynsham who refused to be taken in by a suspected doorstep conman has been praised by police.
The pensioner was approached by a man who offered to carry her shopping bags for her and then tried to claim he was a council worker sent to do some maintenance in her garden.
However, she turned him away from her home off Queens Road.
Det Sgt Andy Hodges said: "When he changed his story and said he'd been sent by the council to do some gardening, she quite rightly demanded to see proof of his identity. He eventually gave up and walked away towards Queens Road."

“Well done madam. Regrettably many others do not have the confidence to act as you did, hence the continuing reports of similar scams that result in people losing money or being attacked. I fear that it will be an extremely long process to finally rid society of these criminals.”
