Dear Reader,
As we know, our feelings about Christmas are often instilled in us from very early childhood.
We can all probably still recollect the excitement of spotting the Christmas trees in our neighbours homes, mum and dad getting the decorations down from the loft amid cheers and woops of delights or running to the letterbox each morning to see how many cards we’d received. And who can forget the mouth watering aromas wafting from the kitchen as mum busily prepared the Christmas pudding and mince pies?
All these and more are memories we hold dear. And no doubt your pupils and children will have some of the same feelings - and different ones to ours - that will remain with them through to adulthood.
So, right now, we would like to invite your children to help share with us, and our community, their feelings about what truly makes Christmas so special.
We are running a colourful supplement about Christmas in Bath at the end of November and we would love to feature an image from a local school pupil to capture Christmas toys on the front cover. It will be their view of an ideal Christmas toy.
The Chronicle will look to publish the finalist in each category and the lucky overall winner will then see their picture on the front cover of our Christmas special – something they will treasure and something that will become a happy Christmas memory in itself.
Therefore we would be very grateful if you could invite your children to be part of our contest to capture their ideal Christmas toy. All they will need to do is to submit either an A4 landscape drawing or painting that sums up their favourite toy this Christmas.
These entries will then be entered into a prize draw. The entrance will then be split into three age groups, four to five, six to eight and nine to eleven.
First prize in each age group will win £50 in vouchers, second £25 and 3rd £15 in Golden Cot vouchers.
A prize giving presentation will take place on Thursday 19th November, 5pm, at Eric Snooks where the winner for each category will be announced and prizes given out.
On behalf of us all at The Bath Chronicle and Eric Snook’s, when the time comes may we wish you, your colleagues and you pupils a very Merry Christmas.
