Cold Ashton man fights for life as crane hits power cable

A man from Cold Ashton near Bath is fighting for his life after being electrocuted in a freak accident.

The 37-year-old victim, who has not been named, was standing on a crane when the jib hit an overhead power cable.

He was hit by 11,000 volts but the crane operator was said to said to have walked away shaken but otherwise unhurt.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and resuscitated the victim using a defibrillator at a building site in Trowbridge.

The air ambulance was called and the man was airlifted to Bath's Royal United Hospital before being transferred to a specialist unit at Morriston Hospital in Swansea.

An investigation has been launched into the freak accident at the new Trowbridge Rugby Club in Paxcroft yesterday morning.

Power to homes in nearby Hilperton was knocked out in the incident.
