Coach to Bath's Olympic heroes Glover and Stanning in line for top award
The coach who taught Bath's golden girls Helen Glover and Heather Stanning to row is in the running for a top award.
Great Britain rowing team coach Paul Stannard has been named as a finalist in the Performance-Development Coach of the Year category at the UK Coaching Awards 2012.

Stannard was based for some time at GB Rowing Team’s START centre at the University of Bath before moving to work with the national squads.
Stannard taught Glover and Stanning who went on to win TeamGB's first gold medal at the London Olympics.

He also coached University of Bath-based rower Vicky Thornley who was in the women's eight at the London Olympics and won world championship bronze in 2011.
Stannard has been recognised for his skills in managing groups of rowers, bringing them together as a team and managing their individual needs whilst giving them confidence in their own ability and to perform at a high level.
Stanndard faces opposition from judo’s Peter Blood and Barry Collie from gymnastics.
The Awards, sponsored by Gillette, take place at London’s Lancaster Hotel tonight.
